Ghostly greetings! Welcome to Georgina Paranormal’s spooky virtual tour through some of our town’s weird, odd and delightfully scary places! This list is by no means complete; however, we have included some of the area’s more notoriously haunted locations. We will, from time to time, update this list – so check back frequently and have fun reading about our beautiful, spooky town. And always remember that if you have a story or photo that you would like to share with us, please do! Also remember that if you do choose to visit some of these scary, eerie locations, please do so safely and respectfully. Thank you for your interest in all things fun and frightening and have a spooktacular time!
1. RAVENSHOE ROAD AND LESLIE STREET/THE QUEENSWAY S., KESWICK
Start here by looking up at the skies! This particular intersection is home to some great UFO sightings, one of which MUFON was extremely interested in looking at! We always receive reports from residents who live either just north of this intersection or, most notably, west of it. Residents who live near Canal Road near the start of Lake Drive S. along Ravenshoe going west are more likely to see strange lights in the sky. Pack a thermos of coffee and hang out in the park (West Park) near there and take a telescope. You never know what you’ll see! And if you meet any little green people, please say hello.
2. LAKE DRIVE SOUTH IN KESWICK
Lake Drive South between Ravenshoe Road and Pine Beach Road in Keswick is definitely a haunted area of town. It’s a delightfully long stretch of road, perfect for meandering, and there are many older cottages there intermingled with new builds – but it is “old cottage country” which has been populated for an exceedingly long time. There are many stories of people being followed home by unseen entities as they take a leisurely stroll along the lake in that area, as well as stories of child spirits and strange lights at night. Many houses in this particular area have had haunting “issues”, and we have been contacted by quite a few residents who believe they are visited by things they cannot explain. This area is also known to be the area where residents have seen a creature which they describe as a “rake” or “skinwalker” – though a “rake” is more of an accurate description of this creature. (Google “the rake”, and you will understand why it is so accurate and terrifying!) This creature looks like a human, but it walks on all fours and appears to be naked and hairless with large black alien-looking eyes. It has been seen on both Hollywood Drive and Miami Drive between The Queensway S. and Lake Drive South in the early hours of the morning. One person who recently (early 2020) attended our public paranormal meetings believed that it may have been this creature that left strange footprints on their car windshield! This creature has been spotted at all times of the year between midnight and 4 a.m., so keep your eyes open!
3. SIMCOE LANDING SUBDIVISION
The subdivision at Ravenshoe Road and The Queensway S., known as Simcoe Landing, has been an active area since it was first built. The residents there report seeing child spirits and having encounters with indigenous entities who appear to be unhappy or angry. There are also sightings of various other ghosts who appear to be dressed in clothing from the late 1800’s, as well as animal spirits. It’s a busy place! This is proof positive that not only older homes can be haunted by spirits. Remember: it’s not just a house that can be haunted, but the land upon which is rests. Take a stroll through the streets of Simcoe Landing and experience the atmosphere of place. Are your ears ringing? That’s another “symptom” that people report in that location. Ringing ears or disorientation are common in that area. Considering it’s located within an active UFO report area, maybe it’s the mother ship calling!!
4. SIMCOE AVENUE AND THE QUEENSWAY SOUTH, KESWICK
This intersection in Keswick is often noted as the CIBC Bank intersection. It is at this particular intersection where another sighting of the creature known as “the rake” occurred in late 2016. A young couple was coming home from an event at 1 o’clock in the morning and wanted to stop at the banking machine. They were slowing down when this creature ran in front of their car. It came from Simcoe Avenue, and ran in front of the car, into the darkness past the curb near the animal hospital. Needless to say, they did not get their cash!
5. CHURCH STREET, KESWICK
One of the older streets in Keswick, filled with beautiful old houses! Church Street is known for its traveling ghosts, since the old train station was located near the intersection of Church Street and Metro Road. People who have worked in the Simcoe Mews building on Simcoe Avenue and Metro Road have sometimes seen ghostly travelers walking through the parking lot towards the (no longer there) train station at various times of the year. There is a hydro station at that intersection now, and the premise is that the electricity and energy generated there feeds the energy that the ghostly apparitions need in order to make their presence known! Church Street is also the site of a wandering woman who, the rumour is, lost her life while waiting on the porch of the doctor’s house in the area during a snowstorm in the 1800’s.
6. SAX’S FISH AND CHIPS, CHURCH STREET, KESWICK
207 Church Street is the site of what used to be known as “Sax’s Fish and Chips”, an incredibly famous haunted location! Sax’s has changed hands throughout the years, but every owner since has experienced something unexplained there, especially in the basement. The ghost of Uncle Eddie has been seen in the kitchen and the main eating area there enjoying a laugh or two (likely among ghostly friends), and the spirit of a child has also been seen. We at Georgina Paranormal (the GPS) have investigated the location in the past (when it was known as “Uncle Eddie’s Place”) and have experienced many an odd thing there! We would love to share some stories with you should you ever wish to attend our bi-monthly public paranormal meetings! Sax’s Fish and Chips is featured on YouTube. Look up “16 Angry Paranormal Spirits Haunt the Restaurant – FREE MOVIE” on YouTube, and you will find out some really interesting information about the location. At the time of this writing, the location is closed and for sale. We’re hoping that someone purchases it and opens it up soon so that you can enjoy a beverage there and experience the atmosphere of this very haunted location.
7. MANN CEMETERY, KESWICK
A very old, very haunted cemetery, Mann Cemetery is located just north of Old Homestead Road on The Queensway North in Keswick. For years, people have reported hearing whispers, seeing lights and experiencing dark shadows which seem to lurk behind them as they walk through the cemetery in the early evenings. The neighbours in the area are very protective of this site, so if you do choose to visit it, remember to be respectful and quiet. There is much history there, and it’s quite a lovely spot to wander through, reading the tombstones.
8. KESWICK CEMETERY, KESWICK
Varney Road, found along Boyer’s Road west of Woodbine Avenue in Keswick, is where Keswick Cemetery is located. This cemetery is a newer one, and it is definitely one in which we have, as a team, experienced some strong paranormal activity! Lights, anomalous sounds/whispers and feelings of being watched are a normal occurrence here. The dead here are very protected by strong guardian spirits! We have experienced our flashlights being manipulated by spirit, and the voices captured on our spirit boxes often are not the kindest! Again, tread softly here and be very respectful. It is rumoured that some buried here are those who have no known living relatives or who were found to have died alone and lonely. Perhaps they are looking for some friends among the living!
9. KESWICK BY THE LAKE SUBDIVISION, KESWICK
As it’s most referred to, “The Ice Palace Subdivision” is one of the most haunted subdivisions in Keswick! Even though the homes are not too old, the land most definitely is! The rumour is that the land there was used by indigenous communities for their ceremonies and celebrations because it is “high ground” and close to spirit. Indeed, if you drive to the top of the hill on Morton Avenue just west of Woodbine Avenue, you are very high up and are able to see the lake from above – a beautiful sight! As higher ground, it would have been very sacred and prized, so the rumour is that there is unhappiness that the land has been razed and built upon and not left alone and celebrated. Countless houses on Burnaby Drive, Natanya Blvd., Ladyburn Drive, Kyle Crescent and other streets within the subdivision have reported high activity such as – again! -- child ghosts and animal ghosts as well as being visited by what they deem native spirits. Are the spirits upset by the population there? Perhaps. Why not take a walk down the more active streets mentioned above and see if you can “feel” the energy?
10. GEORGINA PIONEER VILLAGE
Going north along Baseline Road towards Sutton, turn left at Civic Centre Road to arrive at the Georgina Pioneer Village! It’s a beautiful collection of historic buildings all gathered together in a delightful way! The buildings, including the magnificent Noble House, all have their own ghostly inhabitants. Cameras suddenly lose battery power, orb anomalies and mists mysteriously appear within pictures taken at the location, and the atmosphere in the train station can make the hair on your arms stand on end! Try and attend a ghost walk during the spooky season if you can – but even on a summer night, the ghosts will still be there. Watching.
11. GEORGINA CIVIC CENTRE
Adjacent to the Pioneer Village sits the Civic Centre. The Centre itself has a rich history and was once home to both priests and sisters of The Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer. In fact, the offices within it were the inhabitants’ small personal rooms. Many stories of those who work(ed) within the building have circulated throughout the years, most notably those including things moving, shadows seen and very creepy feelings in the halls and basement. The GPS investigated there in 2018, and it was definitely an interesting and intriguing experience. We’d love to tell you all about it. Wandering the grounds of the Civic Centre and walking the labyrinth there, we know you’ll experience the unique atmosphere of the location. And who knows? Maybe you’ll see a ghostly priest or two!
12. WILLOW BEACH
Travelling east along Metro Road, you will find yourself in the lovely community of Willow Beach. The beach itself has had its fair share of unknown lights reported in the sky above its shoreline. There have also been reports of lights which appear to “float” in the water as they slowly come to shore, so people in the area believe them to possibly be “water sprites” or Elemental spirits of the lake. If you’re thinking of walking along the shoreline at Willow Beach, be careful! A tall dark faceless shadow figure has been seen more than once on the beach, slowly walking along. In the late 1970’s, a resident reported seeing a tall “astronaut” with a silver suit walking along the road in the Willow Beach area. Alien? Ghost? Elemental spirit? If you take its picture, please share it with us!
13. DE LA SALLE BEACH, JACKSON’S POINT
More travelling along Metro Road towards the east will lead to De La Salle Beach in Jackson’s Point. This location is extremely popular with beachgoers and is always very busy! At night, however, its atmosphere changes perceptively. The beach is a location with remarkably high electromagnetic energy (our EMF detectors really light up here!), and once again, people report seeing strange lights in the sky above the shoreline as well as points of light drifting towards the shore in the early morning hours. Also, this is the site in which people tend to snap photographic anomalies with their cameras. Orb anomalies (often disputed in paranormal communities) are often captured which are thought to be globular forms of spirit energy. Other photographic anomalies captured here include mists and shadows, also thought to be spirit manifestations. Georgina Paranormal investigators have led public walkabouts in this location where these things have occurred and have been witnessed by attendees. A very exciting, very busy location. Interesting to note that Jackson’s Point is itself a hotspot for UFO activity and has been for many years. (Search “UFO interrupts radio station 1973 – Jackson’s Point Incident” on YouTube.) Some people in the area believe that there is an underwater alien launchpad at the base of Snake Island – and perhaps even off the shore of Georgina Island! Energy spikes are common here, and very odd photographs have been taken and shared with us at the GPS. The Director of Georgina Paranormal even appeared to capture what appears to be the spirit of a young girl within a portal of energy in this location in 2017. Curious? Take some pictures and see what you get! We’d love to see them too.
14. HIGH STREET, SUTTON
A beautiful old main street, High Street in Sutton has its fair share of old haunted buildings! There is much history here (murders and the like!), but one of the more notorious stories is that of very tall, dark top-hatted men who peer inside second storey windows along the street from Dalton Road to Highway 48! Occurring most notably in the 1800’s and early 1900’s, stories of these extremely tall dark figures instilled much fear and were the reason curtains and blinds were installed in the second storey windows of houses on that street – and the reason why even now people are afraid to peer outside of their windows past midnight! The Georgina Arts Centre and Gallery is another building along High Street with a haunted personality. There are multiple ghosts within the building, and the spirit of a young girl named Emma who resides in the left bathroom in the downstairs workroom. The building on the corner of Dalton Road and High Street which used to be the Sutton Radial Station is also known to house some spirits! Take a walk along High Street at night and feel the electric atmosphere!
15. BRIAR HILL CEMETERY, SUTTON
This cemetery is located along Black River Road in Sutton. Reports throughout the years of odd photographic anomalies as well as disembodied voices, shadow figures and playful ghosts who run from tombstone to tombstone in the twilight hours are plentiful. In recent years, there have been reports of UFO activity in the newer area of the cemetery which overlooks the river. A figure which has been described as a “liquid-like, humanoid shape” has been spotted in the cemetery which resembles the creature in “stealth mode” from the movie “Predator”. As in all cemeteries, we suggest extreme safety and respect if you should decide to venture there – especially after dark!
16. JUBILEE SUBDIVISION/JOHN LINK AVENUE, SUTTON
This newer Sutton Subdivision which is accessed by John Link Avenue off Baseline Road has been very paranormally active since it came into existence. Native spirits have been seen outside the homes after dark, and residents have reported odd things happening in their homes such as finding smouldering piles of sawdust in their living rooms and playful pranks being played by a spirit who obviously loves to hide wallets, jewelry and other belongings – then return them in strange locations such as the freezer or bathtub! The rumour is that the spirits of the land (the Elemental spirits) are not happy because the trees have been cleared and the land has been altered in order to build houses. It is said that the Elemental spirits of the land will be appeased and leave you alone if you respect the land you are on, perhaps planting a tree or a garden and leaving a wild patch of grass or plants in a corner of your property for them to enjoy. Georgina Paranormal often receives reports of paranormal activity within these beautiful new homes, and the residents are baffled that a new home could ever be so haunted. Just a reminder that it’s the land in this subdivision that is enchanted. Your home may just happen to sit upon the favourite (now fallen) tree of a very sad and very vengeful Elemental entity. Now might be the time to plant that tree!
17. ST. GEORGE’S ANGLICAN CHURCH
408 Hedge Road in Sibbald Point is the site of St. George’s Church and where Stephen Leacock is buried. Actually, many notable people are buried within the churchyard there, and the church website is a wonderful resource of historical information and even a self-guided tour! Ghostly speaking, the graveyard has been rife with so many stories throughout the years! Ghostly lights, growling sounds, ghosts of men and women wandering the grounds, and a feeling of fear and compromise in the far corner of the churchyard where the oldest tombstones lie. Within the church itself, visitors have snapped pictures filled with photographic anomalies including various orbs of various sizes and colours. Are they simply dust? Perhaps some of them are; however, upon closer observation, we at the GPS believe that there are those which could truly be legitimate ghostly energy. Interested in visiting? Good! Bring your camera. We would love to see your pictures at the next meeting!!!!
18. SIBBALD’S POINT PROVINCIAL PARK
Park Road is home to Sibbald’s Point Provincial Park which has many stories of ghostly apparitions within the park itself as well as within Eildon Hall, a historical landmark and museum which sits proudly on park grounds. A woman has been seen peering through the windows of the museum, and people have reported hearing footsteps on the paths throughout the park when there is seemingly no one there. Thinking of camping? Perhaps thinking of taking a walk on a crisp autumn night? Take a flashlight and a camera. There are mists and shadows just waiting to be documented!
19. HIGHWAY 48 AND PARK ROAD, SUTTON
The site of many a road accident in the past, this intersection has seen its fair share of activity in recent years. In 2015, the first report of the apparition of a young man who appeared to be staring into the field just west of Park Road along Highway 48 (between Park Road and Stretch Thrift Store) was sent to us. Since then, a few more have been sent, all of which describe the same young man. He is dressed in jeans and a hoodie, hands in his pockets, and is staring at the field to the north of the highway with his back to the road. He disappears just as the cars pass alongside of his apparition – very scary indeed! His ghost is seen very early in the morning between 1 and 3 a.m. Coming home from the casino at 1:30 in the morning? Take Highway 48 towards Sutton and see if you can spot this ghost. The question is: who is he? If you have any idea, please let us know.
20. MORNING GLORY PUBLIC SCHOOL, PEFFERLAW
A few years ago, in 2017, Georgina Paranormal led a public “swamp walk” walkabout upon the grounds of this notoriously haunted public school. Some photographs yielded incredible evidence of what seems to be someone looking out of the window in the empty school – which is very creepy! But ask some of the staff and students who are there on a daily basis whether the building is haunted, and they will undeniably tell you that YES. It is. Why is it so haunted? The Morning Glory swamp was the site of a very famous murder which took place in 1858, and it is believed that the residual energy of that murderous event exists upon the grounds of what we now know to be Morning Glory Public School. (See “Murder in the Morning Glory Swamp, Pefferlaw” on YouTube.) Photographs of orb anomalies and mists are common on the grounds, and if you listen very carefully, you may even hear cries for help on the wafting night air. But be careful walking on the uneven ground. There are rumours that bodies lie buried beneath the ground there, though those rumours are just that. Rumours. Or are they?
21. PEFFERLAW TRAIN TRACKS, PEFFERLAW ROAD
Imagine driving home alone after a great event, and approaching the train tracks on Pefferlaw Road, hearing an approaching train but not seeing the barriers or lights activated? This has been reported to happen there in the wee hours. Reports are that you can hear the train, feel the wind from the train – but there is no train to be seen. Eerie? Indeed. If you’re driving or walking home in the area in the wee hours, keep your ears open for the ghost train. And let us know if a ghostly conductor waves at you.
We hope you enjoyed this virtual ghostly journey through some of Georgina’s more haunted locations. Please visit our website regularly for updates! Thank you so much for your interest in what we do. We appreciate you!
